Apocalyptica

After showing my friend Sri around, I have been job hunting. Hopefully, everything will be set soon, before my brother's wedding.

While I was going through the discography of Guano Apes, I found a track where Sandra Nasic does a collaboration with Finnish band called Apocalyptica, and the track is called "Path Vol. 2". They are a group of three, formerly four, clasically trained cellists, and have incorporated a drummer since 2005. They started in the music scene with their debut album Plays Metallica by Four Cellos, all Metallica covers played just with cellos. This gave them huge recognition and a break through the mainstream, with a huge amount of fans from the metal scene. Theis second album, Inquisition Symphony, was again a cover album, but this time included covers of such bands as Faith No More, Sepultura, Pantera, and then again, more Metallica. Can you tell they are Metallica fans? :P The rest of their albums are all original songs, and some of them have some guest musicians such as Dave Lombardo, from Slayer, or Cristina Scabbia, from Lacuna Coil.

Here, I would like to post, first of all, the video for the song with Sandra Nasic, and then, I will leave some other videos with other guest musicians. Enjoy this alternative to electric guitars:

"Path Vol. 2" with Sandra Nasic

"Bittersweet" with Ville Valo (HIM) & Lauri Ylönen (The Rasmus)

"Repressed" with Max Cavalera (Soulfly)

"Seemann" with Nina Hagen

Korn MTV Unplugged

A reasonable attempt from nu-metal pioneers KoRn, this is quite an interesting piece for the fans of the band, (including myself), because their songs don't belong to the classical rock pattern, nor any other melodical or mellow style. At first, it is hard to digest, but you can get used to it with a couple of listenings, because an acoustic performance its totally different from their original sound. You could consider as an experiment. Also, it's not just their basic instruments without any plugs. They have incorporated quite a range of instruments, including violin, piano, percussions, etc. and featured singer Amy Lee and the whole of The Cure. Worth checking it out, even for the metal haters! I have found a video with the airing of the acoustic concert in MTV2, so here it is, to be shared:

A Tale of Rock

A short film by John Godwyn and Stevo Payne. Apparently it recently won the award for 'Best Character Animation' and 'Audience Award' at Hertfordshire University Digital Animation Film Day. My brother showed me this video yesterday, from their official website, and I have to say it's very good and inspiring!

For those who still wonder how can you play a guitar in such a unique way, here is a great example given by awesome guitarist Paul Gilbert:

300 Soundtrack

Amazing soundtrack for a spectacular movie! It blends perfectly with the scenes of the film, with a heavy, epic and loads of action atmosphere. Composer Tyler Bates (Dawn of the Dead, Rob Zombie's The Devil's Rejects, and Slither), is the responsible of the score. Orchestration, blended with vocals, electric guitars and some electronica effects make the right combination for the Spartans show-off. Just follow the link provided by Abbian's blogg to download the soundtrack. Thanks Abian! There is more information and a video with director/co-writer Zack Snyder and composer Tyler Bates at the Amazon's website, discussing the 300 soundtrack.

I will leave now the trailer for this movie, just to get a taste of what its like, especially for those who haven't seen it yet. Enjoy!
