Malagueña Salerosa
The other day my wife showed me this video, which I think is awesome and I would like to share with you:
Malagueña Salerosa also known as La Malagueña is a well-known Son Huasteco or Huapango song from Mexico, which has been covered by many performers.
The song is that of a man telling a woman (from Málaga, Spain) how beautiful she is, and how he would love to be her man, but that he understands her rejecting him for being too poor.
This song became known internationally and has been recorded by many non-Mexican artists like:
José Feliciano
Rafael Mendez on his album Mendez And Almeida Together
Paco de Lucía on his 1967 album Dos guitarras flamencas en America Latina
Eddie Palmieri on his 1998 album El Rumbero del Piano.
Bud & Travis on their 1959 album Bud and Travis.
The Limeliters on their 1960 album The Limeliters.
Sandler and Young
Los Caballeros
Lydia Mendoza
Helmut Lotti in 2000 on the album Latino Classics.
Pablito Ruiz
Placido Domingo
Ray Boguslav in 1961 on the album Curfew shall not ring tonight Monitor MF359
The San Francisco rock band The Tubes sang it on their 1975 album debut.
Tex-mex band Chingón recorded it for the soundtrack of Kill Bill Vol. 2.
And many more.
Reference from Wikipedia.
Chingon was formed by film director Robert Rodriguez to record songs for his 2003 film Once Upon a Time in Mexico. They contributed on Mexico and Mariachis, a compilation album to Rodríguez' Mariachi Trilogy, and released their debut album, Mexican Spaghetti Western, in 2004. The band's name comes from a Mexican slang term, chingón, loosely but closely enough meaning "badass" and/or "awesome".
Chingon also contributed the song "Malagueña Salerosa" to Quentin Tarantino's Kill Bill Vol. 2 — which Rodríguez scored — and a live performance by the band was included on the film's DVD release. They also contributed to the soundtrack for his next film, a collaboration with Tarantino, Grindhouse, doing a cover of the film's opening theme, re-titling it "Cherry's Dance of Death". Rodríguez plays guitar in the band. The band has also made a appearance on "George Buys a Vow", an episode of the US sitcom George Lopez.
Here is the acclaimed video... enjoy!
